Underwriting
In collaboration with other departments, OdysseyRe’s Underwriting team decides which reinsurance risks to undertake, and the scope and terms of our commitments. Our underwriters are the customer-facing unit generating OdysseyRe’s revenue stream and are a key driver of the Company’s results. The underwriting team evaluates the risk portfolios of our clients and interacts with insurance company and broker executives to structure mutually acceptable transactions. The unit creates and maintains commercial relationships with these business partners. We pride ourselves on our consistent long-term underwriting approach, well-defined risk appetite and commitment to providing quality service.

Actuarial
OdysseyRe’s Actuarial department consists of both pricing and reserving actuaries that support financial planning and forecasting. Our pricing actuaries partner with our underwriters to evaluate and make recommendations on the viability of reinsurance proposals by completing studies, performing portfolio deep dives, preparing trend analysis as well as developing and retaining pricing and rating tools. Our reserving actuaries conduct quarterly reviews of reserves, focus on the financial close process and communicate reserve estimates and changes. Both teams help assess the risks of our underwriting portfolios.
